Charity

Making a Difference

Built on the foundations of Masonic Charities operating since the early 18th Century and funded entirely through the generosity of Freemasons and their families, Dorset Freemasons continue to support local charitable causes, either directly or through the work of the Freemasons Charity, The Masonic Charitable Foundation and our own Masonic charity, Dorset Masonic Care.

In the past year over forty local charitable causes have benefitted from grants totalling in excess of £250,000 given by Freemasons.

What is the MCF?

The Masonic Charitable Foundation is one of the largest grant-making charities in the country, helping to build better lives by encouraging opportunity, promoting independence and improving wellbeing.

In addition to the support provided to individuals and their families in the Masonic community, the Masonic Charitable Foundation awards millions of pounds each year to local and national charities that help the vulnerable, advance medical research and provide opportunities for young people. They also help to fund vital services such as hospices and air ambulances and regularly contribute to worldwide appeals for disaster relief. In total, their support helps to improve the lives of thousands of people every year in England, Wales and across the world.

What is Festival 25?

Once in every eleven years each of the forty-four Masonic Provinces in England and Wales are asked, to raise funds for the central Masonic Charity, the Masonic Charitable Foundation. Having completed our last period of Festival fundraising in 2014 the Province of Dorset is once again back in Festival mode raising funds for the MCF until the end of 2025, by which time we hope to have raised £1.25 million.

What is Dorset Masonic Care?

Dorset Masonic Care primarily provides support, relief and assistance to members of the Masonic community and their dependants living in Dorset. They also provide support to, and for the benefit of, local charitable institutions or other charitable causes and individuals in Dorset.
